ABSTRACT
Sustained-release polymeric beads containing Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride fabricated with sodium alginate and chitosan were prepared by the ionotropic gelation method. Model drug, ciprofloxacin hydrochloride was entrapped in sodium alginate and Gelucire in different ratios. Here, calcium chloride was used as a cross-linking agent. Microbeads of Ciprofloxacin hydrochloride were prepared with different concentrations of polymers and electrolytes. The microbeads were characterized in terms of drug-excipient compatibility study, particle size analysis, shape analysis, drug content, encapsulation efficiency and in vitro drug release study. Results signified the fact that
microbeads formed had sufficient good surface and size to be utilized as a dosage form responsible for sustained release of drug from matrix through erosion.
