ABSTRACT
Rheumatoid arthritis is a long-term autoimmune disorder that primarily affects joints. Onset is most frequent during middle age and women are affected 3 times as frequently as men. It typically results in warm, swollen, and painful joints. Pain and stiffness often worsen following rest. Most commonly, the wrist and hands are involved, with the same joints typically involved on both sides of the body. The disease may also affect other parts of the body. Often, symptoms come on gradually over weeks to months. While the cause of rheumatoid arthritis is not clear, it is believed to involve a combination of genetic and
environmental factors. The underlying mechanism involves the body's immune system attacking the joints. This results in inflammation and thickening of the joint capsule. The potential of the synovial inflammation to cause cartilage destruction is the hallmark of the disease. According to Ayurveda it can be correlated with Amvata. Predominance of vata, kapha & mandagni along with tridosha dusti was found to play an important role. Maximum doshanubandha found as vata & kapha. The management of Rheumatoid arthritis includes steroids, NSAIDS etc. which give symptomatically relief to the patient and they may have a greater rate of adverse effects .In Ayurveda, Bhallatak is best for vata kapha disorder as per Acharya Charaka says, it promotes the “Agni vyapara” thus preventing the production of “Ama” in the body which is the main culprit in the disease Amavata.
