PHARMACOGNOSTICAL ANALYSIS OF TRIPHALAGUDUCHYADI VATI- A HERBAL FORMULATION IN THE MANAGEMENT OF OVERWEIGHT CHILDREN

ABSTRACT
Childhood obesity is a burden in developed and developing countries. Overweight or obesity is mostly found in people with predominantly Kapha-type constitutions. The Ayurveda tactic is the perfect answer to overweight because Ayurveda does not recommend any weight loss pills or fast weight loss programs. Bio-purificatory and pacificatory measures are important tools of Ayurveda therapeutics. Instead of this, it promotes dietary restriction, moderate exercise and certain effective Ayurveda formulations in the management of this disease without harmful side effects. The Ayurveda formulations with Kapha-Vatahara and Medohara property improve fat metabolism in an obese individual
and thus helps in maintaining the weight. So for the treatment of overweight children, an Ayurvedic formulation of Triphalaguduchyadi Vati was selected. The standardization was carried out to the finished product Triphalaguduchyadi Vati to confirm its identity, quality, and purity. The pharmacognostic work reveals that presence of Starch grain of Musta, Fragment of pitted vessel of Musta, Stone cells of Haritaki, Loop of stone cells of Bibhitaki, Stone cells of Amalaki, Rhomboidal crystal of Musta, Silica deposition of Amalaki, Collenchyma cell of Guduchi, Scleroid of Haritaki etc. was observed microscopically. Organoleptic features of coarse powder made out of the crude drugs were within the standard range as mentioned in the classic.
