ANTIOXIDANT, FREE RADICAL SCAVENGING AND ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITIES OF ARISTOLOCHIA INDICA L.

ABSTRACT
Aristolochia indica is a popular medicinal plant in the Ayurvedic Pharmacopeia of India. Plant is collected from the wild for its medicinal usage. In the present study, Quatitative analysis of plant secondary metabolites revealed the presence of Phenol, flavonoids and tannins like important class of compounds, where as extracts of the plant showed antimicrobial activity against bacteria and fungi as well as antioxidant potential due to their scavenging activity that contributes for its usefulness for the management of various ailments. DPPH stable free radical method is a sensitive way to determine the antioxidant activity of Aristolochia indica extracts.
