ABSTRACT

Dog bite is serious public health problem worldwide beyond age barrier. With increasing use of traditional and complementary medicine in recent years, medicinal plants play crucial role in management of dog bite. This study was designed to evaluate the practice of herbal medicine in treatment of dog bite. The study was based on scientific literature review of articles related to dog bite treatment from medicinal plants. The results showed that medicinal plants have exhibited their anti-rabies property through their respective root, leaf, stem, bark etc. belonging to various families. Conclusively, knowledge and skills of medicinal plants in treatment of dog bite is incredible which should be preserved. This may be useful in discovery of potential source of new active constituents for anti-rabies and support to achieve ―zero human rabies death by 2030‖ goal of WHO including other organizations.
