Dr. Anil Kumar* and Dr. Pankaj Kumar Mishra
ABSTRACT
Rakta Mokshan or Bloodletting is a one of the para-surgical procedures described in Ayurveda for the treatment of different diseases specifically Raktapittaja in origin. In this therapy a careful and controlled removal of small amount of blood is conducted to neutralize the accumulated pitta dosha responsible for blood born disorders. Raktamokshan decreases the quantum of pitta dosha thus disease caused by pitta is also decreased. As in Ayurvedic medicine basti therapy is regarded as ardhachikitsa[1], similary in surgery rakta mokshan is also considered to be the partial or complete treatment in itself.
