ABSTRACT
The aim of this study was carried out to standardise fingerprint for Vasanthakusumakara Mathirai by instrumental analysis. This drug is traditionally used for bronchial asthma, tuberculosis. The modern scientific instruments like Fourier Transform Infra-Red, Scanning Electron Microscope, Inductively Coupled Plasma Optic Emission Spectrometry were used to evaluate functional groups, particle size and heavy metal analysis respectively. FT-IR showed Amide, Alcohol, Alkene, Alkyne, Ether, Alkyl and Nitro group. These functional groups are responsible to treat bacterial infection and kills tubercle bacilli in sputum. In SEM the particle size ranges from 89.7nm to 138nm. So the drug has micro and nano particle which increases the therapeutic
effect. While analysing ICP-OES, showed that Mercury was within permissible limit and other metals like Lead, Arsenic cadmium were below detectable limit. Thus, VKM has its standard fingerprint and evaluate the formula scientifically.
