ABSTRACT
The new thiazole derivatives (Ia-Ic, IIa-IIc and IIIa-IIIc) has been
synthesized as reported in general scheme. In first step substituted
acetophenone was allowed to react with bromine in the presence of
AlCl3 and ethanol gave various phenacyl bromide derivatives. In
second step substituted anilines were reacted with ammonium
thiocyanate in the presence of HCL and water which refluxed for about
3-4 hrs gave various derivatives of N-phenyl thiourea. In last step
synthesized phenacyl bromide derivatives were refluxed with
derivatives of N-phenyl thiourea in the presence of water for given
time period. After completion of reaction which was indicated by TLC, the solid was
separated and filtered then washed with water. After washing, crude drug obtained was
recrystallized from ethanol gave crystals of final derivatives. The synthesized thiazole
derivatives were subjected to physicochemical studies like melting point determination, TLC
and % yield. The structures of synthesized thiazole derivatives were characterized by
spectroscopy, FT-IR spectroscopy, Mass spectroscopy and NMR spectroscopy.Antibacterial
screening of newly synthesized compounds (Ia-Ic, IIa-IIc and IIIa-IIIc) was carried out
against E. coli, S. aureus and antifungal activity against A. niger according to cup-plate
method. The synthesized compounds Ia, Ib, IIa IIc, IIIa, IIIb, IIIc are more effective against S. aureus and E. coli. and Compound IIIc is effective against A. niger.
