ABSTRACT
The antibacterial and antifungal activity of the ethanol extract from the Patoladi kvatha churna was studied using disc diffusion and well diffusion method against Escherichia coli, Proteus vulgaris, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Candida albicans. Phytochemical screening of the Patoladi kvatha churna revealed the presence of some bioactive components, which have been linked to antimicrobial properties. Various chemical tests and TLC, HPTLC, GC-MS studies showed the presence of flavonoids, alkaloids, glycosides, sterols and phenolic compounds when tested on ethanolic extract of Patoladi kvatha churna. Results suggest that the ethanolic
extract has significant antibacterial & antifungal activity against tested bacteria. The Present study justifies the claimed uses of Patoladi kvatha churna in the traditional system of medicine to treat various skin diseases.
