ABSTRACT
Vidanga (Embelia ribes Burm F.) belong to the family Myrsinaceae. Vidanga is a medicinal plant uses in Ayurveda system for medicine for the treatment of various ailment sines vedic to modern period. It is preferably and widely uses for krimi nashan karma. It is known embelia in English, Vayavidanga in Hindi. In details pharmacognostical profile of this plant is not found. Vidanga is being adulterented/ substituted with embelia robusta auct. and also various other drugs in market, so genuineness of drug need to be assessed before use as poor quality of the drug leads to the decrease in therapeutic efficacy. Some of the techniques like macroscopic and
microscopic and TLC were done. Pharmacognostical evaluation transverse section shows of seed, secretory cells, pericarp, mesocarp, epicarp, ideoblast cells and powder microscopy shows presence of lignin, mucilage, starch grains, suberin, preliminary phytochemical showed presence of carbohydrate, alkaloids, amino acids, saponin, glycosides, tannins of aqueous and ethanol extract. So, worked can be the considered as standard for future studies and helpful for quality, safety and efficacy control of vidanga.
Keywords: Vidanga (Embelia ribes), phytochemical profile, physicochemical analysis, TLC, aqueous, ethanol extract.
