AEGLE MARMELOS: DOWN-REGULATOR OF ANGIOGENESIS IN CHICK CHORIOALLANTOIC MEMBRANE (CAM) IN OVO
*U. H. Shah
ABSTRACT
The chick chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) is ideal model for study of vasculogenesis and angiogenesis. The sprouting type of angiogenesis is present in chick CAM up to 5- 6 embryonic days of incubation. The effect of aqueous leaf extract of A. marmelos was studied on angiogenesis by using chick CAM assay. The aqueous leaf extract significantly decreases the area of CAM, number of blood vessels and capillary plexus formation. The phytoconstituents in A. marmelos acts synergistically as angiostatic and may be used in therapeutic angiogenesis to treat disease like cancer in which excessive angiogenesis is observed.
