ABSTRACT
Visarpa (Herpes) is a much frequent disease seen in the all strata of society. It manifests with pain, burning, redness, inflammation etc. in acute as well as chronic phase. The modern treatment as pain killers, antiviral agents and steroids is available today. In Ayurved, various formulations are used in Visarpa. But usage of agada may prove effective in short span. Hence Himawan Agad mentioned in Ashtang Hridayam in Sarpavisha Chikitsa has been chosen as trial drug for topical application in Pittaj Visarpa as it is stated for topical application. Shatadhauta Ghruta is one of the formulations mentioned for topical application in Visarpa and is being used by ayurvedic practitioners. Hence it has been chosen as drug for standard control. A
Randomized, Clinical, Active controlled trial is designed to compare their efficacies. The control and trial groups received the respective drugs for topical application in t.i.d. for 10 days as symptoms of Visarpa show self reduction in severity after 10-12 days. In the subjective parameters, Daha, Kshataj Prakash and Shool showed early and statistically significant reduction in gradation of severity whereas Srav, Pak, Sphot, Jwar were also reduced effectively but statistically insignificant as compared to Shatadhauta ghruta. Thus the topical application of Himawan agad with Madhu is proven effective remedy in Pittaj Visarpa.
