ALTERNATE CONTROL STRATEGIES VERSUS PHARMACOLOGICAL CONTROL OF ASTHMA: A- REVIEW

ABSTRACT
Asthma is the most common respiratory disorder which usually involves the inflammation and spasm of airways in lungs. Asthmatic patients are suffered from wheezing, coughing, chest tightness and trouble breathing. Prevention and long-term control are some important strategies to stop the asthma before its initiation. A variety of medication is used to treat the different types of asthma worldwide. Different plants and herbs are also used for the relief of asthmatic patients in some countries. These plants have some anti-inflammatory activities which help to control the symptoms of asthma. However, detailed studies are required to investigate the presence of active substances in the extracts of these plants which may provide an effective control in asthmatic patients. Moreover, dosage regimen of these pharmacologically active plants is also need to be rationalized. This paper highlights some of the important medicines used to treat the asthma and some well-renowned herbs which are being used in asthmatic patients since many years.
