ABSTRACT
Metformin is anti-diabetic drug used to treat type 2 diabetes patients.
Proteinuria and oedema and nephrotic syndrome is occurs in
association with wide variety of primary and systemic disease and also
with drugs. Major drugs that can induce nephrotic syndrome and
glomerular damage are gold, penicillamine, bucillamine and nonsteroidal
anti-inflammatory drugs. Here we report a case of female
patient of 68 years old who developed nephrotic syndrome after
initiation of metformin. Whereas both De-challenge was done and
ADR assessment scales like Naranjo scale and WHO scale shows
possible ADR and it can be managed by stopping the medication. So,
clinical pharmacist plays an important role in monitoring, detecting,
and managing ADRs.
