REVIEW OF INSULIN AND ITS ANALOGUE USE IN DIABETES MELLITUS AND ADVANCES IN INSULIN THERAPY

ABSTRACT
Diabetes mellitus is defined as a heterogenous metabolic disorder
characterized by common feature of chronic hypoglycemia with
disturbance of carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism.It is the most
common of endocrine disorder..I t was estimated that more than 200
million people worldwide had DM and 300 million will subsequently
have the disease by 2025. Diabetes mellitus may be classified
according to aetiology by for the most common type being type -1 and
type-2 diabetes. Type-1 diabetes(insulin dependent diabetes mellitus)
is a disease characterized by destruction of the insulin producing
pancreatic –β cells, it can caused due to autoimmune and idiopathic
reasons(about 10% of the type-1 diabetes).Usually develops in the young (below the age of
30),although can develop in any age.Type-2(non insulin dependent type diabetes mellitus) is
more common above the age of 40 with a peak of onset in developed countries between 60
and 70 years.
