Abstract

A REVIEW ON CONTROLLED POROSITY OSMOTIC PUMP TABLET

Pangavhane Komal K.* and Saudagar R. B.

ABSTRACT

Conventional oral drug delivery systems supply continues release of the drug, which cannot release of drug and effective concentration at the target site. Hence to avoid these problem, various controlled drug delivery systems are been developed. Among these osmotic drug delivery system is the best drug delivery system which utilizes the principle of osmotic pressure releases drug in optimised manner. Various patents available for osmotic drug delivery system like Rose- Nelson pump, Higuchi leeper pump, Higuchi Theeuwes pump, Elementary Osmotic pump etc. Various techniques available for preparation of Osmotic Drug Delivery System include Push pull osmotic pump, Osmotic bursting osmotic pump, Controlled porosity osmotic pump, Liquid oral osmotic system, Sandwiched osmotic tablets, and monolithic osmotic system. This present review is concerned with the study of controlled porosity osmotic pump(CPOP). It contain drug, osmogens, excipients in core and a coating of semipermeable membrane with water soluble additives. In CPOP water soluble additives are dissolve when it comes in contact with water, resulting in an in situ formation of microporous membrane.

Keywords: Osmotic pump, Controlled porosity osmotic pump, Semipermeable membrane, Osmogens, Microporous membrane.
