ABSTRACT
A tranquilizer mentions to a drug that is used especially to reduce
anxiety and tension. Major tranquilizers are commonly used for
psychosis and the minor tranquilizers are used for the treatment of
anxiety, muscle spasm and convulsions etc. The minor tranquilizers or
anxiolytics/sedative-hypnotics are also used in dentistry especially to
reduce the anxiety during the dental treatment. The uses of minor
tranquilizers in other anxiety induced oral diseases also have been
reported. The tranquilizers can also cause some changes in the oral
cavity and the most common being dry mouth. A thorough
understanding of the mechanism, uses and the adverse effects of these
drugs will help dentists to render a good oral care in their clinical
practice.
