ABSTRACT
The hydroalcoholic extracts of Sauropus androgynus Leaves were evaluated for anti convulsant activity in PTZ and picrotoxin induced convulsion in mice. Extraction and preliminary phytochemical studies of Sauropus androgynus revealed the presence of Alkaloids, Carbohydrates, Flavonoids, Saponins, Steroids and Proteins. Convulsion was induced by PTZ (80mg/kg) and picrotoxin (3.5mg/kg) in mice and Diazepam (4 mg/kg, i.p) used as standard. Reported activity for all the experimental models showed dose dependent significant anticonvulsant activity. The parameters such as onset of
convulsion, duration of convulsion and mortality were studied. The maximum effect was seen with 400 mg/kg dose of the extract than the 200 mg/kg in this study.
