ABSTRACT
In the present study, phytochemical screening of Passiflora edulis (unripen fruit peel) with methanol, ethanol, petroleum ether, chloroform and aqueous extracts were done. The presence of phytochemicals were well-founded in ethanolic extract. The acute and subacute toxicity studies were carried out using male albino rats at the dose levels of 150,250,350,450,550(mg/kg b.w). There were no adverse effect found in the behavioral pattern, haematological evaluation in treated groups. The LD50 value was more than 2000 mg/kg body weight. The biochemical and haematological parameters (RBC, Hb, WBC, MCV, MCH, Platelets, neutrophils and lymphocytes) did not showed any significant alterations (p>0.05) in the treated groups when compared to control. The results of this studyreveals that it does not cause any adverse effects and considered as nontoxic and safe.
