ABSTRACT
In this study preliminary phytochemical investigation and free radical scavenging activity of methanolic leaf extract of Sesbania grandiflora (leguminosae) was determined by using in vitro assay model of DPPH free radical scavenging activity and metal chelating activity. Here ascorbic acid and NaEDTA are used as reference standard respectively. Methanolic leaves extract showed the strong presence of Flavonoids. The extract exhibited free radical scavenging and antioxidant activity in a dose dependent manner (50 – 350 μg/ml) in both the test models which were comparable with the standard.
Keywords: free radical scavenging, Sesbania grandiflora, DPPH.
