ABSTRACT
Objective: To evaluate the acute anti-inflammatory properties of methanolic, petroleum ether and ethanolic extracts of Butea Monosperma leaf on carrageenan induced paw edema of rats. Material and methods: The three different extract of Butea Monosperma was extracted by using petroleum ether, Methanol and Ethanol. The anti-inflammatory profile of these extracts was investigated on the basis of paw edema induced by carrageenan. The animals were divided into 5 groups of 6 animals each. Group I served as control. Group II served as standard and were injected Diclofenac sodium (9 mg/kg) intraperitonially. Group III and IV and V were treated orally with three extract of 250 mg/kg body weight respectively. Results: All the extracts showed considerable dose dependent activity. However ethanol extract 250mg/kg showed higher activity than other extracts. Conclusion: The different leaf extract has anti inflammatory property. Further study needed to put the anti inflammatory Property in a precise way.
