Abstract

TOXOPATHOLOGICAL FINDINGS ASSOCIATED WITH DIFFERENT DOSES OF PROGESTERONE FOR FOUR MONTHS DURATION IN WHITE MICE.

ABSTRACT

Because the importance of progesterone Toxicity, this study aimed to identify the pathological effect of different progesterone doses for long duration in white mice for this reason 4 groups of mice, each group 20 mice (10 males and 10 females) daily given S/C 0.15 mg / kg.b.wt, 0.30 mg / kg.b.wt, 0.45 mg 1 kg. b.wt for group one, two, three and 4th group injected with 0.075 ml of sunflower oil as a control. After 120 days, all mice in the different groups were sacrificed and different pathological lesions were recorded in progesterone treated groups especially 2nd and 3 rd group (intermediate and toxic group). The target reproductive organs were showed increase corpus lutei in ovaries, hyperplasia of uterine endometrium, loss of spermatogenesis in testes and epididymus. The non target organs brain, kidney, liver, spleen showed different lesions according to the dose of progesterone. There is no significant lesions in the stomach, intestine and lungs. Conclusion: Both intermediate and toxic doses of progesterone induce marked pathological lesions in target reproductive organs and non target organs.
