Aprajita Vardhan*, Vidyadevi T. Bhoyar and Karm Raj Yadav

ABSTRACT

Herbal tea (5 kilogram) was prepared using dried, pre-cleaned herbs and plants such as Arjuna bark (Cardioprotective and Hepatoprotective), Sunth (Cardio-tonic, anti-inflammatory), Kalimirch (anti-oxidant, analgesic activity), Pushkarmool (anti-inflammatory, expectorant, analgesic, hikka nigrahana), Manjistha (anti-pyretic, detoxifier, antacid), Pipali (anti-inflammatory), Mulethi (Expectorant, anti-tussive, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective), Tulsi (stimulant, aromatic, antipyretic), Raktchandan (anti-pyretic, anti-inflammatory, anthelmintic) by pulverizing and mixing in the ratio of 40:15:10:5:5:5:10:5:5 respectively. It showed that minimum losses have been observed during processing and product formulation. The raw materials used in formulation and finished product (Herbal tea) was analyzed for its physico-chemical, phytoconstituent analysis by using standard method. Herbal tea water and ethanolic extract was prepared and analyzed for flavonoid content and anti-oxidant activity by using Alcl3 (aluminium chloride) and DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl-hydrate) method respectively. The analysis showed best result in water extract with Flavonoids content 2.25% and IC50% 198ug/ml as compared to ethanolic extract. The formulation was also validated by using CAMAG HPTLC system. The TLC plate showed different Retention Factor (RF) when viewed under 254nm, 366nm and also after derivatization with anisaldehyde-sulfuric acid. The HPTLC fingerprint analysis of Herbal tea validate that the track no.1 which was of formulated herbal tea showed identical RF value for few components in each ingredients. Thus the study explores the benefits of formulated herbal tea which may be a good health drink to reduce the oxidative stress and data will be helpful for future study of herbal drugs.
