NANOSPONGES: A MODERN FORMULATION APPROACH IN DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM

ABSTRACT

Targeted drug delivery to specific sites is the important problem which is being faced by the researchers. The invention of nanosponges has become a significant step towards overcoming these problems. These small sponges can circulate around the body until they encounter the target site and stick on the surface and began to release the drug in a controlled and predictable manner which is more effective for a particular given dosage. In this review article, application of nanosponges, its preparation methods and evaluation have been discussed. Nanosponges play an essential role in targeting drug delivery in a controlled manner. A wide variety of drugs can be loaded into nanosponge for targeting drug delivery. Both lipophilic as well as hydrophilic drugs can be loaded into nanosponges.
