ABSTRACT
The present investigation aims to design, prepare and evaluate the
medicated lozenges of Domperidone for treatment of nausea and
vomiting. Domperidone is a selective serotonin receptor (5-HT3)
antagonist. The benefits of prepared lozenges showed increase in
bioavailability, reduction in gastric irritation by passing of first pass
metabolism and increases onset of action. The lozenges were prepared
by compression technique using wet granulation method using HPMC
K100 M, HPMC K15 M, HPMC K4 M, HPMC E5 polymers and other
suitable excipients. The preparation process involves mixing of
Domperidone with all excipients, used in the formulation in different
ratios and subjected to FTIR for compatibility. All the prepared
formulations were characterized for drug content, hardness, weight
variation, moisture content, in vitro release studies. These compressed
lozenges are compared with marketed conventional Domperidone tablet.
Keywords: Domperidone, Compression, lozenges, vomiting, marketed conventional tablet.
