ABSTRACT
The main objective of the present work is to investigate the
phytochemical screening, HPTLC fingerprint and in vitro antioxidant
of ethanolic extract of seeds of Nelumbo nucifera. Various
phytochemical constituents are investigated in N.nucifera seeds.
HPTLC analysis showed the presence of flavonoids. The experimental
conditions as well as general comments on the application of
chromatographic fingerprint analysis are discussed. 1-1 Diphenyl-2-
picryl-hydroxyl radical scavenging was carried out to evaluate the
antioxidant potential of the extract. Free radical scavenging activity of
ethanolic extract of seeds of N.nucifera increased in a concentration
dependent manner. The ethanolic extracts possess free radical
scavenging activity at five different concentrations (50-250μg/ml).
These findings suggested that the ethanolic extract of N.nucifera
possess in vitro antioxidant activity and acts as an effective free radical scavenger.
Keywords: Nelumbo nucifera, In vitro antioxidant, DPPH and HPTLC fingerprint profile.
