SYNTHESIS, ANTIMICROBIAL EVALUATION AND MOLECULAR PROPERTIES PREDICTION OF CHALCONES
N. Prasanna Lakshmi* and S. Hema Latha
ABSTRACT
Chalcones are 1, 3-diaryl-2-propen-1-ones and are naturally occurring and physiologically active compounds. Chalcones are synthesised by condensing 3-acetyl 2, 5-dimethyl thiophene with various substituted aromatic aldehydes in presence of potassium hydroxide as base in ethanol for 24 hrs. All the synthesized compounds are confirmed by physicochemical data and spectral analysis 1H NMR, IR and Mass spectra. All the compounds are also screened for antibacterial and antifungal activity. Molecular properties are predicted following Lipinski’s “rule of five†using molinspiration. Compound 3a has significant antibacterial activity and compound 4a has significant antifungal activity.
