ABSTRACT
Drug interactions (DIs) are common in clinical practice and are directly related to factors such as polypharmacy, aging, hepatic metabolism and decreased renal function. Individuals with chronic kidney disease (CKD) often require multiple classes of drugs being at important risk for the development of DIs. The present study was to assess the pattern of potential drug-drug interactions in chronic kidney disease patients in nephrology department in a tertiary care Hospital Erode. It was prospective observational study was carried out for a period of six months from January 2017 to June 2017. A total of 210 patients were included in the study. 318 drug interactions were found,
in which 44(13.8%) major, 198(62.2%) moderate and 76(23.8%) minor. In drug interactions pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics actions of drugs that is 168(52.8%) and 150(47.1%) respectively. Most of the interactions 210(66.03%) were have delayed onset of action and remaining 108(33.9%) have rapid onset of action.
