ABSTRACT
The present study was performed to assess the in vitro effect of chloroform extract of Polyherbal formulation AET against Helicobacter pylori strain using Agar disk diffusion and broth microdilution methods to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values. In agar disk diffusion assay, the chloroform extract of Polyherbal formulation AET showed maximum zone inhibition of 12.975±1.13 mm at 500mcg/ml concentration whereas, in broth microdilution assay, the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the extract by visual examination was found to be at 125 mcg/ml. The results were compared with clarithromycin 15
mcg as standard. The study reveals that the chloroform extract of PHF AET may contain compounds possessing antimicrobial activity and thus can be used as an alternative medicine for gastrointestinal diseases.
