IN VITRO ASSAY OF ALPHA AMYLASE INHIBITORY ACTIVITY OF POLYHERBAL FORMULATION

ABSTRACT
The present study was investigated to assess the in vitro effect of 70% Hydroethanolic extract of Polyherbal formulation AET for inhibitory effect on α – amylase. The inhibition of α – amylase, a carbohydrate hydrolyzing enzyme can be an important approach to lower postprandial blood glucose levels in patients with Type II diabetes. Unfortunately, such inhibitors are known to be associated with various gastrointestinal side effects. The results of the study revealed that 70% Hydroethanolic extract of Polyherbal formulation AET significantly inhibited α – amylase to 74.67% at the concentration of 25 mg/ml.
