ABSTRACT
Glipizide is a poorly water soluble drug (0.001μg/ml). In the present
study, we are attempted to enhance the solubility using solid dispersion
techniques. Solvent evaporation was used to prepare above
formulations. Various drug- carrier ratios were used to verify the
enhancement of drug release. Various higher grade PEG’s were used
(PEG 8000, PEG 10000, PEG 15000, PEG 20000). The formulation
with drug and PEG 20,000 showed superior drug release characteristics
compared to other formulations. The formulations were evaluated for
its dissolution profile, compatibility with excipients and changes in
drug’s polymorphic nature. Stability studies indicated that there is no
significant changes over the period of time.
Keywords: solid dispersions, higher grades of PEG’s, solvent evaporation method, and dissolution studies.
