ASSESSMENT OF BARRIERS IN INSULIN THERAPY AND QUALITY OF LIFE IN DIABETIC PATIENTS

ABSTRACT
As a chronic disorder diabetes mellitus is a fast growing global
problem with several complications. It is necessary to control blood
sugar within a normal level by providing good therapeutic awareness
regarding insulin therapy. Inappropriate use and lack of knowledge
about insulin therapy may leads to several barriers to initiate insulin
and also cause preventable complications. The poor adherence of a
patient may contributed by patients misbelieves, hypoglycaemia,
injection phobia, social embarrassment. Insulin therapy is the main
stay of diabetes management. But many diabetic patients do not
receive insulin therapy in a timely manner because of a negative appraisal of this treatment
option. The importance of assessing quality of life is to have objective evaluations of how
much the disease influences patient‟s life and how patient cope-up with it.
