CYCLOSERINE INDUCED DEPRESSION IN A CASE OF MULTIDRUG RESISTANT TUBERCULOSIS

ABSTRACT
Background: Cycloserine is a Category IV anti mycobacterial agent used for the treatment of multidrug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB). In this report, we highlight a case of cycloserine induced depression in a 25-year old female patient on treatment for drug resistant tuberculosis. Case description: Here, we report a case of 25 years old female, who was diagnosed as multidrug resistant tuberculosis and treated with cycloserine. She developed cycloserine induced depression. Cycloserine was stopped and patient was started on antidepressants. Patient recovered from the symptoms gradually over period of a month after stoppage of the drug. Conclusion: Cycloserine induced depression is not a usual side effect. Patients with MDR-TB receiving cycloserine should be closely monitored for neuropsychiatric side effects for early recognition and treatment.
