ROLE OF AYURVEDA IN PREVENTIVE CARDIOLOGY

ABSTRACT
In the present era interest is taken in this field as morbidity & Mortality by diseases has increased day by day particularly in India between age group of 30-55 years. Actual cause of diseases is not known but multiple etiological factors have been identified of IHD.[1] Again they have been divided into two groups.
a) Major: 1) Elevated serum lipid level 2) Habitual diet-high in total calories, total fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, refined carbohydrates & fats. 3) Hypertension 4) Cigarette smoking 5) Carbohydrate intolerance 6) Obesity.
b) Minor: 1) Oral contraceptive 2) Sedentary lifestyle 3)Personality
types 4) Psycho-social tension.
Out of this the management of hyper cholesterol level is one of the major factor ie. Higher the serum cholesterol higher the risk. Where as reduction of serum cholesterol by the 15% would result in decrease risk of IHD by 35%. Thus the dietary modifications as per Ayurved ie. “Satmyakar Ahar” & some medicinal drugs of “Lekhaniya Guna” as per Charak Samhita and respiratory exercise which help to scrap the body and reduce the bulk at every levels. So it is effective on atherosclerosis and so consider beneficial for prevention of Atherosclerotic Heart diseases. These measure help to reduce obesity & clinical relief in IHD patient.
