A REVIEW ON CORTICOSTEROIDS AND THERE LONG TERM ADVERSE EFFECTS

ABSTRACT
Glucocorticoids are widely used as potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive drugs to treat a wide range of diseases. Oral corticosteroids become important part of therapy regimens for a diverse variety of conditions. Despite their efficacy, they are associated with a wide variety of adverse events. Corticosteroids can causes serious long term adverse effects. These adverse effects include osteoporosis, cataract, diabetes, adrenal insufficiency, psychatric adverse effects, infection, gastric complications and growth retardation. Although, some adverse drug reactions can preventable by forming and implementing the treatment guidelines Implementing multidisciplinary strategies in preventing adverse drug reactions must be consistently applied as per the needs of the individual patient and health care organization.
