PRELIMINARILY PHYTOCHEMICAL AND PHYSICOCHEMICAL ANALYSIS OF DASHANGA AGADA

ABSTRACT
Standardization of herbo- mineral Ayurvedic formulations is an important step for quality assurance program for production and manufacturing of drugs. WHO stated guidelines for the evaluation of the safety, efficacy and quality of herbal medicines as a requirement for global harmonization are of greatest importance. The present paper reports preparation and standardization of Dashanga Agada, a compound of herbo-mineral formulation explained in Astangahridaya for the treatment of all type of Keeta Visha (Insect poisoning). This herbo- mineral preparation is having a vital role in health care system because these drugs are available at low cost, easily available, safe and people having faith on them. Dashanga Agada was prepared as told in
classics as Gullika form. Here we discussed and focused about organoleptic characters like color, odour, taste and consistency, physicochemical evaluation like total ash, acid insoluble ash, water-soluble ash, alcohol soluble extractive and water-soluble extractives were determined. Phytochemical analysis for inorganic and organic elements and Thin layer chromatography (TLC) etc. These parameters are necessary for authentication of any herbal drug and its herbo-mineral formulation.
