ABSTRACT
The investigation was carried out to determine the possible bioactive components of whole plant of Micrococca mercurialis using GC-MS analysis. The chemical compositions of the ethanol extract of whole plant of Micrococca mercurialis was investigated using Perkin – Elmer Gas Chromatography – Mass Spectrometry, while the mass spectra of the compounds found in the extract was matched with the National Institute of Standard and Technology (NIST) library. Thirty compounds were identified; Scyllo-inositol di-butaneboronate di-trimethylsilylether-Ether. (16.56%), 1-Deuterio-3,4-dimethyl-1-silacyclopent-3-ene-Alkene.(13.78%) and 13-Docosenamide, (Z)-Amide. (6.36%), Phytol (5.98%) and 5-(4'-Chlorophenyl)-3-phenylpyrazole- Heterocyclic compound (1.85%), etc., The study
concludes that the species Micrococca mercurialis is a potential source for bioactive compounds such as esters, alcohols, alkenes, amine, ketone and so forth. This study justifies the traditional usage of this species.
Keywords: GC-MS, Micrococca mercurialis, phytol, ketone and esters.
