ABSTRACT
Antioxidant activity of Butea monosperma (Lamk.) Taub. flowers was studied using different assays like ABTS radical cation decolourization assay, Hydrogen peroxide scavenging activity, Lipid peroxidation inhibitory activity and total antioxidant activity. The aqueous and methanolic extracts of Butea monosperma (Lamk.) Taub. flowers showed significant increase in antioxidant activity with increasing concentrations. The aqueous extract of Butea monosperma (Lamk.) Taub. flowers showed better antioxidant activity in ABTS radical scavenging and lipid peroxidation as compared to methanolic extract. The flowers were capable of scavenging free radicals invitro.
Keywords: Butea monosperma, antioxidant, free radical scavenging, ABTS, Hydrogen peroxide, Lipid peroxidation.
