PRESCRIBING PATTERN OF ANTIBIOTICS IN PEDIATRIC AND GENERAL MEDICINE DEPARTMENT – A REVIEW

ABSTRACT
Antibiotics are commonly prescribed to treat various infectious conditions. Rational antibiotic prescription is very important to avoid multiple drug resistance, treatment failure, non-compliance and increase in cost of treatment. Pediatrics is the festive of medical sciences concerned with the physical, mental and social health of children from birth to young adulthood. The world is highly populated by microorganisms of miraculous diversity and the most commonly affected populations are pediatric by different infectious disease. Essential medicines are those that satisfy the health care needs of the population. A national EML should be based upon national clinical guidelines. Selection of medicine should be done by a central committee based on safety, efficacy, quality, cost and cost
-effectiveness. Rational medicines use as when a ―patient receives medications useful to clinical needs, in doses that meet their individual requirements, for an sufficient period of time and at the lowest cost to them and their family.
