ABSTRACT
Bauhinia vahlii belonging to family Caesalpiniaceae commonly known as Maljhan occur in India. Bauhinia vahlii used in the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis, dysentery, abrasions, in fever, anti-fertility, aphrodisiac, skin disease, demulcent, mucilaginous and reported for agathisflavone, betulinic acid, campesterol, quercetin, isoquercetrin, β- sitosterol, stigmasterol, kaempferol and quercetin 3-glycoside. Pharmacognostical standardization parameters for macroscopic, microscopy, fluorescence analysis and physico-chemical parameters i.e. foreign organic matter, moisture content, ash values, extractive values, and preliminary phytochemical screening of the leaf of Bauhinia vahlii were investigated. In present study, successive extraction was carried out and extracts were subjected to qualitative tests for identification of various constituents like alkaloids, carbohydrates, glycosides, proteins, amino acid, steroid, flavonoids, tannins and phenolic compounds. The present study will be useful for its identification prior to carrying out further research work.
