ABSTRACT
The 2-Acetyl Thiopyran thiocynate (1-Thiopyran-2-yl) ethanone thiocyanate (ATPT) was synthesized. It was characterized by TLC, Melting point, Elemental analysis, IR and NMR techniques. It was the new reagent synthesized as extractant for the development of extractive spectrophotometric determination of Palladium (II) metal. The metal complexes shows yellowish colour with Palladium (II). The reagent was then extracted into ethyl acetate at pH 6.0 having adsorption maxima at 520 nm. The thermal study showed that the extraction reaction are exothermic in nature with the 2-Acetyl thiopyran thiocynate reagent and the stoichiometric ratio of palladium (II) to 2-Acetyl thiopyran thiocynate in organic phase was 1:2. This method permits separation and the determination of Palladium (II) from palladium catalyst and binary mixture.
