ABSTRACT
To Evaluate the in vitro and in vivo antioxidant potential and hepatoprotective activity of Safoof-e-Akseer-e-Jigar (SAJ). The antioxidant study of SAJ was carried out in vitro by using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryldrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging method. Acute oral toxicity was evaluated in Swiss albino mice to determine the maximum Tolerated Dose (MTD). Hepatoprotective activity was evaluated by paracetamol induced liver injured animal model in Wistar rats. Acute oral toxicity study revealed that SAJ is a safe compound as none of the animals died during the observation period and there were no sign and symptoms of toxicity related to it and its
MTD>2600mg/kg in mice indicating its high safety profile. SAJ at a dose of 180mg/kg, was found to have significant (p
