AN ETIOPATHOLOGICAL STUDY ON MEDOROGA W.S.R. OBESITY

ABSTRACT
Obesity is a major public health concern that contributes to some of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality including diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases, stroke and various types of cancer. In recent decades, obesity has reached epidemic proportions in populations whose environment promotes physical inactivity and increased consumption of high-calorie food. The incidence of obesity has been considerably increasing at a rapid rate even in Indian population. This study aims to collect the data from diagnosed patients of Obesity (Medoroga) regarding socio-economic, demographic, lifestyle factors and Ayurvedic clinical parameters. Body Mass Index (BMI) was also calculated using standard procedure. This study was conducted on 73
obese patients. Age, occupation, Sharirika Prakriti (biological constitution), dietary and lifestyle factors appear to play key role in the development of obesity as supported by observations of this study. Suitable dietary and lifestyle modification strategies and intervention programs are the need of hour to prevent and control increasing incidence of obesity.
