ABSTRACT The present investigation reported that, the screening of actinomycetes isolated from the seaweeds of Palk Strait for production of antimalarial comounds. The actinomycetes were cultured using starch casein agar and secondary metabolites obtained using ethyl acetate. Thereafter, the assay was employed to evaluate the impact of these metabolites on the growth of Plasmodium falciparum. The method was used to determine the parasite inhibition profiles and 50% inhibitory concentration values of the actinomycetes crude extracts. Out of 3 tested crude extract of actinomycetes, third (ACT-3) crude extract showed strong growth inhibition with an IC50 in the low microgram range (35.48 μg mL-1). The results were found to be potential for more comprehensive studies on new antimalarials from seaweed associated actinomycetes. Keywords: Actinomycetes, seaweed, anti-malaria, bioactive compounds.
