Abstract

A CLINICAL STUDY ON THE MANAGEMENT OF GRAHANI (IBS) WITH MARICHYADI CHURNA AND BRAHMI CHURNA

ABSTRACT

Grahani is a disease of great Clinical relevance in the modern era because of its direct link with the improper food habits and stressful life style of the present time. The fast life of today’s era and changes in environment produces lot of stress and tension effecting the mind an disturbs human physiology. For the maintenance of mental & physical health it is must for the digestive system to be sensitive enough to protect the body from unwanted influence. The gut is a mirror of the mind. The close tieup between the mind and gut result in psychosomatic disorders. One of them is irritable bowl syndrome (IBS) which is functional bowel disorder. It is a symptom based diagnosis & characterized by interment loose motion/ constipation, abdominal plain, discomfort, bloating and alteration of bowel habit. Now a days large section of our society is returning back to the natural ways of living with lot of expectation from Ayurveda system of medicine which is easily available. It is also ecofriendly and toxicity free. So they look for treatment of such pshychosomatic disorder in Ayurveda. Ayurveda mentioned one similar diseae known as “Grahani”. The symptoms of grahani resemble to the most of IBS symptoms. The study shows effectiveness of Marichyadi churan in relieving these symptoms. The study was conducted in 30 clinically diagnosed and randomly selected patients, which were divided in to two groups. Group A of 15 patients treated with Marichyadi churan & Group B treted with Brahmi churna. In both groups patients were treated for 8 weeks. Observation showed significant improvement in clinical symptoms of Group A.
