ABSTRACT
The objective of the study was to develop and evaluate sustained release Metoprolol tartrate pellets in the form capsule and compare with the marketed dosage form (METLOR-XR). The formulation was optimized using 32 factorial design by design expert software version 10.0. The concentration of Eudragit L-100 and concentration of PVP K-30 were chosen as independent variables. The formulated pellets were evaluated for flow properties, % drug content, in-vitro drug release, % coating efficiency, SEM, DSC and FTIR, etc. The optimized formulated batch was compared with the marketed formulation (METLOR-XR capsule). The % drug release of optimized batch hour was found to be 91.35%. The formulated batch (F1) has more drug release than marketed product and hence it has more bioavailability.
Keywords: Metoprolol tartrate, Eudragit L-100, Polyvinyl pyrrolidone k-30, Solution layering technique, pellets.
