CLINICAL EVALUATION OF SHINSHAPA (DALBERGIA SISSOO ROXB.) AS ITS EFFECT ON GRIDHRASI

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Shinshapa (Dalbergia sissoo Roxb.) belongs to the
family Fabaceae and is being mentioned from the Vedic Kala to
today’s era. Shinshapa being used as a timber tree even with its
mentioning in the treatment of many diseases in Vedic and Samhita
Kala. Acharya Vangasena has clearly mentioned utility of stem bark of
Shinshapa in Gridhrasi. Hence an effort was made to analyze the
effect of Dalbergia sissoo Roxb. stem bark on Gridhrasi. Aim: To
ascertain the efficacy of Shinshapa Kanda Twak GhanaVati in the
management of Gridhrasi. Material and Methods: Shinshapa Kanda
Twak GhanaVati (group A) had been selected as the test drug.
ParijataPatra Ghana Vati (group B) had been selected as the reference
standard drug. Based on signs and symptoms of Gridhrasi, patients were randomly divided
into both the Groups. Total 30 patients (15 in each group) had completed their treatment out
of 33 registered. In both the groups 1g of trail drug, twice a day were administered for 21
days with simple water. The assessment was done with relief in signs and symptoms like Ruk,
Toda, Stambha, Suptata, Muhu Spandana, Gaurava, SLR Test etc. Results were statistically
analyzed using student’s t-test. Result: Relief found in both the groups, though better result
was observed in Group B i.e Parijata Patra Ghana Vati in comparison to Group A i.e
Shinshapa Kanda Twak Ghana Vati. Conclusion: Group B (Parijata Patra Ghana Vati)
found more effective than Group A (Shinshapa Kanda Twak Ghana Vati) in almost all signs
and symptoms and in overall effect of drug.
