ABSTRACT
The aim of the present study was to prepare and evaluate Microsponges containing Nateglinide (NTG) to improve the therapeutic efficacy, reducing its dosing frequency and dose related side effects. Quasi emulsion solvent diffusion method was employed using Eudragit RS 100 with various drug polymer ratios for the preparation of microsponges. Characterization techniques followed for the formed microsponges were FT-IR, Production yield, Percentage loading efficiency, Morphology, Particle size analysis and In vitro drug release. It was found that there were no chemical interactions between drug and polymers used as per FT-IR results. The drug - Polymer ratio showed remarkable impact on Percentage loading efficiency and
Particle size. SEM micrographs revealed that microsponges are spherical in shape. The Microsponges were then loaded in capsules followed by in vitro drug release study; which depicted that microsponge with drug - polymer ratio 1:3 was more proficient to give controlled release at the end of 12 h. The kinetics analysis of the drug release from the Nateglinide microsponges follows Zero order and anomalous (non-fickian) transport mechanism.
