ABSTRACT
The Present study is undertaken to investigate extent of pollution, to determine the ground water quality in and around Ariyalur District due to usage of fertilizers and make awareness among the people about the quality of ground water by taking water samples from 12 different locations for analysis. Ariyalur is an administrative in the state of Tamil Nadu. Many cement industries and mining industries are located in and around this area. During the year 2015 summer, winter and Monsoon seasons are analyzed in order to find out pollution impact. The sample were analyzed for physico–chemical parameters such as pH, EC,TDS, TH, DO, Ca, Mg, BOD COD and No3 and comparing the results against drinking quality standard said by the WHO (2011). It was found that the some of the ground water quality parameters were above the limit. The high value of WQI has been found to be mainly
from the higher values of EC,TDS,COD and BOD in the ground water. The calculated values WQI 235.2. Hence periodic assessment of water quality based on water parameter analysis is highly essential. It will help to preserve future sustainability in water quality.
