ABSTRACT
Formulation scientists are always facing the challenges in the era of bioavailability of solid dosage forms. The absorption of drug in body is affected by the dissolution process and dissolution is affected by the solubility of drug. The newly discovered chemical entities in the pharmaceutical and medicinal industry are facing the solubility problem because 40% of them are poorly water soluble or lipophilic in nature. Therefore to increase the solubility and thus the dissolution of poorly water soluble drug is the need of research. Solid dispersion the technique making an interest for the scientists who are already working on the bioavailability enhancement. In solid dispersion the hydrophobic drug is incorporate into the hydrophilic matrix of a
hydrophilic polymer material; it means for solid dispersion at least two different components are required. The advances in the solid dispersion technology are discussed in this review. This review also suggests the reason and choice behind selecting the carrier matrix.
